Wraeththu questions...

topic posted Fri, July 30, 2004 - 1:12 PM by  Walker
So I read it first like 5 years ago, and my bf read it like 7 years ago, and now we are reading it out loud to each other (what fun!) And we have some questions we've been asking...maybe you all can help...
Is Pellaz a power bottom?
Are the Varrs Americans?
From L.A.?
Why such a male centric book about androgyny?
What percentage of incepted Hars were gay before their inception?
Should they share their Har-ness with women?
Thanks for the input 8-)

OOH you and your man read it together?

i'd love to reread it with someone i really like...even, reading it aloud between each other

    ((I love reading books aloud)

heh heh, can't answer thsoe questions. storm constantine is a woman, it was a bit surprising to me that she didn't include very many female characters in the first trilogy.

have you read the sequel? i'm in the middle of reading it, had to pause it for the past few months because i'm reading even MORE books...

No, I haven't read the sequel yet.. I am looking forward to it tho. Especially since I assume she will be writing more about the Kamagrian (female wraeththu) It might be a while until we get to it cuz we are only on page 200 or so in the 1st book...

I understand your questions, but I think our point of view is a bit off, especially when it comes to Ms. Constantine. I'm gay, and that is how I connected with the stories, because they are so homocentric...for me. I think that Constantine wants to surpass the concept of human genders, thus she created her own race. But I know the reason I connected with it is because I already find myself between male and female.
I guess that didn't so much answer any of your questions, except "Why such a male centric book about androgyny?" doesn't she have a female character who berates Cal for his assumption that women are second rate to men, just because most wraeththu are created from men?
I don't know, it's been quite a while since I read Wraeththu, but I do love the Grigory chronicles. I was so excited to post because Storm Constantine is my favorite author.

      Thanks for your replies.
These questions were mearly for the sake of innocuous converstion, not reflecting any of my views. As an androgynous being myself, I identify with these books easily as well.

        hey,
thanks for sparking my interest even more. Now I can't wait to get back to Wraeththu. I've so much to read now. I'm in the middle of "Oracle Lips" a collection of Storm's short stories; very nice.

    Hey Walker,

You ARE one of the faeries I envison when I think of har, you and Simon, Kohl, Malachai, etc...

Anyway, here's my take on your qestions:

    >Is Pellaz a power bottom?
~ No, no, no silly! Its CAL who's the power bottom - he's the one clawing furrows in Terez's & Swift's backs 7 otherwise rocking the world of his various ouana partners. Don't worry you'll get there... Pellaz is a bit too busy being conflicted to embrace his soume in that way, i think.

    >Are the Varrs Americans? From L.A.?
~Megalithica is definitely North America, though for some reason I've envisioned it being centered more in the Southwest than in SoCal - i could be wrong of course, and I suppose we'll all know more when this RPG that storm & crew are creating is out as I presume it'll have a map or two involved. For more info on that check out her website: <www.gothland.wox.org/bast/> , or her self-pulishing press: <www.immanionpress.wox.org/>.

I'd also encourage you, and anyone else who's interested to buy the books directly from her via the Immanion Press sight - because who wouldn't rather support the artist, than a big corporate book seller...

FYI, she's reworked the first three book - with a decade's worth of writing experience under her belt they are MUCH MUCH better - not hughly modified, but smoother, more coherent, & yummier!

    >Why such a male centric book about androgyny?
~I suppose I could wax eloquent about the whys and wherefores, but I think it comes down to this: she's a big ol' witch who likes androgenous bois, and is comfortable with polysexuality.

The new series deals in much deeper depth with the Kamagrian, the spirituality, magic & other dimensional ha ha...you will LOVE it!

~What percentage of incepted Hars were gay before their inception?
~As Cristos said, not really relevant, but you and I can only aproach it from our queerness, so that will slant our perceptions. Storm, to my knowledge is straight-but-not-narrow, or perhaps bi, but she's british (don't know why someone thought she was in SF, BTW, not to my knoweldge...anyway) an not public about shuch things. She's married/handfasted to a lovely harish androgynous boi. Actually, I'd be really interested how a straight man would read this mythos...considering how much resonance we faeries find in it - i know form Storm's website, etc. that many straight women seem to see har as idealized men as they'd love them to be, rather than queer-boi/faeries as we tend to see them.

Should they share their Har-ness with women?
~A lot of the things your wondering about are addressed in the new series - funny enough...

Hope you all had a wonderous Winter Solstice gathering!

    Bright Blissings,
    ~Onyx
